About GENIUS

GENIUS is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network Industrial Doctorates (MSCA-DN-ID) funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe Programme for research and innovation and by the UK Research and Innovation. It is led by top European actors of research and innovation in radio-frequency systems with applications to aerospace communications and automotive sensing.

We aim at proposing novel scientific tools provided by glide-symmetric (GS) artificial materials. GS artificial materials (or metamaterials) feature a special symmetry inside their constitutive unit cells that gives them unique electromagnetic properties. The EU-UKRI-funded GENIUS project examines such metamaterials for use in radio-frequency systems with applications in aerospace communications and automotive sensing. Such materials allow propagation in an ultra-large bandwidth and offer strong isolation and high absorption features, which can be used in modern radio-frequency systems. The project trains six high-skilled doctoral researchers on the physical properties of complex electromagnetic systems and on the design of innovative devices using various modelling methods. Every doctoral project is co-supervised by both academic and industrial partners of the network. A complete doctoral training programme is offered to the recruited researchers with training events on metamaterial, antenna and radio-frequency design, electromagnetic modelling, and with courses in scientific and transverse skills to expose the researchers both to the academic and to the industrial sector.
